《lunares》is a project that emerged from an unexpected death I faced in the summer of 2022. Since the beginning of my artistic practice, I have been working with performances that explore the relationship between object, body, and words. This type of performance began as a way to give form to the experience of seeing my father again after 13 years. The sudden passing of my father, who was neither close nor distant, made me rethink my performance works.

For《lunares》, I invited seven writers who have been following my work and asked them to come up with a word or phrase that could encapsulate some aspects of my work. I didn’t want to seek an auteur theory that could encompass all of my work, but rather a way to scatter and unfold projects and interconnect them at the same time.

The seven years I spent reuniting with my father coincide with the seven years I’ve been presenting my work. With this project, I wanted to see if I could take those two timelines and intertwine them into a new context, creating a fresh weaving for both the present and the future.

In the exhibit, there are seven pieces of writing and one table-like object that I made in response to the writings. Around it are six seats for the audience to sit, read the texts, and interact with small objects.

These writings will be published along with images of work from this time period in a forthcoming book of the same title: lunares. Anticipated for release in January 2024.
