Hapjungjigu presents “I love my life” by Park Jahyun on view through March 17. Curated by art critic and curator Jinshil Lee, this exhibition features Park’s portrait works.

Since 2007, Park has been painting portraits of people under the titles of Everyday Person and Non-regular Workers. The artist depicts women of her age, her friends, or herself in hyperrealism with numerous black dots. Just like the titles of the paintings, which repeat the same even when the characters change, the figures are similar to each other: everyday people living ordinary lives, non-regular workers, art college graduates, and even mothers who have lived a bumpy life.

Park Jahyun was born in 1981 in Daegu, South Korea, and majored in Western painting at Pusan National University. Starting with her solo exhibition at the Space Bandee in 2006, she has held solo exhibitions at KAF Museum, Art District_p, and DOT Museum. Major group exhibitions include “Utopian Scenario about Nature” (Busan Museum of Contemporary Art, Busan, 2023), the 30th 4.3 art exhibition “Guard of Boundaries” (Sanjicheon Gallery, Jeju, 2023), “Metropolis of Desire” (Busan Museum of Art, Busan, 2016), and the 2012 Busan Biennale (Busan Museum of Art, Busan, 2012). She was the 7th artist-in-residence at Daegu Art Factory and her works are in the collection of Busan Museum of Art and Busan Museum of Contemporary Art.
