The
Wooran Foundation presents a special exhibition “Weft of Life”, through January
17, 2025, in celebration of its 10th anniversary.
This
exhibition reflects on the past and present of Korean textile art and has been
designed to envision the next decade by revisiting the foundation's
"warp-like" history, particularly the textile art exhibitions
showcased at the Walker Hill Art Center.
The exhibition “Weft of Life” features the
tapestry and weaving works of artists YiPyung Kim, Sung Ok Hi, Song Burnsoo,
Shin Youngok, YOO Jounghye, Lee Mi-hak, and Cha soon shil, who led the golden
age of textile art in collaboration with the Walker Hill Art Center during the
1990s. It also showcases works by contemporary artists Minseon Kim, Taeyeon
Kim, MOON Bo Ri, Hyunhwa Lee, and Cha Seungean, who have been exploring diverse
approaches to textile art since the 2000s.
This exhibition provides an opportunity to trace the trajectory of Korean textile art, which has evolved based on the diversity and experimental spirit demonstrated by domestic textile artists in the 1990s. It also highlights the present state of textile art, which connects with the previous generation while engaging with contemporary art practices of today.
