Explanation

In his series ‘Pens’, Hong draws pens with various characters on them, reflecting the anonymity inherent in contemporary society. The character designs, which are randomized by the manufacturer and have no known origin, make the artist feel the anonymity and ignorance of modern society. The character pens, randomly placed among the regular pens, resemble the celebrities of today who have risen from obscurity to fame.

Hong Kyoungtack began his series of "Still life" paintings in the 1990s
when he was in his third year of university. He realized that our lives
and the things around us are similar in that they are transient,
so he started painting objects made of plastic.
In the context of the accumulation of not only materials but also still lifes,
it shows an early work in which lightness and heaviness,
pleasure and pain, color and black and white, pattern and realism intersect.
