CR Collective presents its last exhibition this year, “Nowhere to Turn”, on view through November 30.

“Nowhere to Turn” examines the changing systems of human perception/thought, the issue of human/machine subjectivity, and the sense of existence through the works of three artists—Youngho Lee, Ridane Lee, and Yoonjae Lee—who have delved into the ontological issues of video media in contemporary times.

Youngho Lee focuses on the traces of war machines in the history of media, exploring how media, now playfully consumed, was once driven by military currents. In this exhibition, he examines how humans have evolved in perceiving images produced by devices like night-vision goggles and CCTV, which have become clichés in horror films.

Ridane Lee has explored the hybridized sense of existence, crossing between reality and virtuality. In this exhibition, she presents a "pin-up dystopia," a recombination of (female) images that are objectified and commodified, resisting hyperconsumption and acceleration.

Yoonjae Lee, Hovering Duration, 2024 ©CR Collective

Yoonjae Lee questions the fundamentals of visual art through the act of 'seeing,' focusing on media such as the human eye, camera, and monitor. In this exhibition, he reflects on desperation through the depleted senses that arise from an individual's inability to control the world.

Ji Yeon Lee has been working as an editor for the media art and culture channel AliceOn since 2021 and worked as an exhibition coordinator at samuso (now Space for Contemporary Art) from 2021 to 2023.
