From June 23 to September 10, the Seoul National University Museum of Art presents The Journey Through Art Sociology Leads To Art Philosophy: Artists’ Anthology with about 14 artists. The exhibition critically diagnoses the art of this era and suggests the need for art sociology.

The exhibition argues that contemporary art seems to be deeply engaged in philosophical debates, but in reality, it has become detached from philosophical issues and weakened in its search for values. The exhibition argues that one solution to this problem can be art sociology. Through art sociology, the exhibition wants to pay attention to the way art exists and works in reality.

Using both Exhibition Rooms 1-4 and the Core Lounge, it begins with the work of Jaehwan Joo, and continues with works by Haemin Jeong, Kkyurr&Tarr, Boree Hur, Silas Fong, Moongi Gim, Sanghwan Byun, Jungyeob Jung, Min-Jae Kim, Younggyu Kim, Sungkyun Choi, Wonho Lee, Kim Beom and Yang Ah Ham. Related to the exhibition, there will be a round table and a lecture performance of Younggyu Kim’s “How to Become a Millionaire Artist”.

The exhibition humorously distorts the relationship between art and capitalism and discusses the struggles of artists trying to make a living in the art world. The works explore the intimate relationship between society and art.
