Hakgojae Gallery presents a solo exhibition “in the gaze lie thickness and density” by Rohwajeong through July 6.
Rohwajeong is the name of an artist collective composed of Noh Yunhee (1981-) and Jeong Hyunseok (1981-). Since 2007, when they were only in their mid-twenties, Rohwajeong has attracted the attention of the art field with their insightful reflections on the relationship between people, and have received acclaim for their solo exhibitions in major spaces in Korea and abroad. In the title of this exhibition, ‘Noon-gil(in Korean)’ means ‘snowy road’, but it also means ‘eyes, attention’.
Our gaze and interest are cultivated and deepened through training and study, and it is the accumulated poetic thought that truly serves as the source of art. The exhibition at Hakgojae Gallery is expected to give a sense of the “authenticity of art” that Rohwajeong has been thinking about and pursuing.
Rohwajeong (Noh Yoonhee, Jung Hyunseok) was born in 1981 in Seoul, Korea. They graduated from B.F.A. School of Fine Arts, College of Arts, Kookmin University, and has had solo exhibitions at A Lounge (2020), Space Willing & Dealing (2019, 2018), Amado Art Space (2016), and Space B.M. (2015).
Major group exhibitions include “Natural Man: Fragile + True Blue” (2023, Jeju Museum of Contemporary Art, Jeju, Korea), “Portrait of” (2023, Ulsan Museum of Art, Ulsan, Korea), “Manual” (2022, Primary Practice, Seoul, Korea), “Quiet” (2020, Space Willing & Dealing, Seoul, Korea), “Motif” (2018, Hakgojae, Seoul, Korea), and “Lesson 0” (2017, National Museum of Contemporary Art, Gwacheon, Korea).
