The Kumho Museum of Art's special exhibition 《And Afterwards》 introduces seven Korean artists who experiment with the formalistic language centered around painting. It delves into how these artists perceive their surrounding environments and realities, gaining insights into the human psyche and essence, and how they encapsulate these insights on paintings. It explores the multiple layers of stories each artist depicts using natural objects, figures, and items as subjects, thereby reflecting on the diversity and potential of painting.

The participating artists visualize within their canvases everything from intimate emotions and personal stories to reflections on social phenomena, each in their own distinct way. Their works, shaped by varied themes and techniques, engage viewers’ senses while responding to and communicating with contemporary currents and conditions. In addition, the exhibition revisits artists born in the 1980s who previously established connections with the Kumho Museum of Art through its open-call programs.

By reexamining their practices, the exhibition traces the journeys of artists who have consistently contemplated the expansion and variation of painting since their early careers. It is hoped that this presentation, in dialogue with younger artists, will provide an opportunity to reflect on the many facets of contemporary painting and to consider its future directions.
