“Song Yung-Su: The Eternal Human,” a retrospective exhibition of one of the first generation of Korean abstract sculptors, Song Yung-Su (1930–1970), is on view until September 12, 2022, at the Pohang Museum of Steel Art.
The exhibition features the entirety of Song’s artistic practice, which introduced the possibility of iron sculpture to the history of contemporary Korean sculpture. “Song Yung-Su: The Eternal Human” traces Song’s artistic path through his life. From the time he began sculpting as a student at Seoul National University to his death on April 1, 1970, the exhibition includes more than 40 major works and drawings from his sketchbook, which he never let go of. Based on his biography and artist’s notebooks, the exhibition is organized according to the themes of his studies in the form of sculpture.
