Coreana Museum of Art is holding
"Anxiety, when Shared," a special exhibition that focuses on the
emotion of ‘anxiety’ that permeates our daily lives, until November 23. The
exhibition consists of 34 works by nine Korean artists: Miru Kim, Jiyeong Kim (Baekgu),
Youjin Do, Darae Baek, Jungkyun Shin, Yooyun Yang, Yeeun Lee, Wonwoo Lee, and Juhyun
Cho.
The title of the exhibition, "Anxiety,
when Shared," reflects the artists’ approach to understanding their
personal anxieties and highlights the empathy that emerges when these feelings
are shared with others. The nine participating artists are all from the young generation
who have experienced the rapidly changing Korean society in common, and the
exhibition presents works in a variety of genres, including video, painting,
performance, photography, and sound installation.
In their works, the artists explore anxiety
in a multilayered way, whether it is internalized by individuals or arises from
socioeconomic causes. Furthermore, they show a willingness to share their
feelings through everyday materials and words, and to reflect on everyday life.
As such, this exhibition addresses today's
'anxiety' through the diverse perspectives of contemporary artists born between
1981 and 1994, and provides a time of comfort and empathy for all those living
today.
In addition, various programs are planned
to accompany the exhibition. Participating artist Miru Kim's audience
participation performance, Nonverbal Communication Project, will be held
every other Saturday in addition to the regular participation, with one or 10
people joining the artist. On Saturday, October 5, Miru Kim and Jiyeong Kim (Baekgu)
will perform together for two hours. Also, there is a permanent participatory
program for all audiences to share their anxieties, including an artist talk on
Saturday, September 28 and a talk with the curator on Wednesday, October 23.
More information will be available on the museum's website at www.spacec.co.kr.
