In his solo exhibition 《Self-Portrait》, Choi Taehoon creates self-portraits composed of furniture selected through the recommendation algorithms of DIY furniture websites.

Asking, “Could the sum of the furniture recommended to me by the system become another version of myself?”, he experiments with heterogeneous combinations of objects that share the same function but differ in design, connecting similar units vertically and horizontally in a manner analogous to the way algorithms identify relationships across multiple axes. By discovering a formal order among different DIY units, Choi pursues sculptures in which structure itself becomes form.

Choi Taehoon explores various possibilities through which ready-made products can become sculpture. His practice has involved mixing the contemporary social implications embedded in the functions and designs of products with the art-historical contexts of objects, while at other times finding ways to circumvent both.
