《THE VOLUME OF VOID》 speaks of the incompleteness of disappearance, while also allowing us to imagine a state in which something returns to reality precisely because its disappearance has disappeared. In doing so, the exhibition metaphorically reveals the properties of fog, which form its point of departure.

In other words, when something that was before our eyes seems to disappear because of fog, this is merely a sensory error caused by the loss of visual information. In reality, I within the fog and the surrounding situation remain as they originally were.

Yet as the layers of the translucent veil gradually lift and the present becomes visible, we begin to doubt whether the object before us is truly identical to its past form, even if its coordinates remain the same.

Put differently, when I ask whether the self that exists now, after the fog has passed through, is the same as the self before, I come to realize that it is neither simply the same nor entirely different, but located somewhere in between.

As Jean Baudrillard writes in Why Hasn’t Everything Already Disappeared?, “everything that disappears leaves traces, and therefore never disappears completely.” In the process of disappearance, we are able to faintly sense the dust newly generated and the dust that has not yet managed to disappear.
