The monthly art magazine Art In Culture (publisher: Kim Boggi) presents an invitational exhibition at Doosan Gallery, Doosan Art Center, featuring 17 artists selected in 2010 for its emerging artist discovery and development program, “Dongbang Yogoi”.

“Dongbang Yogoi”, which literally evokes the idea of selecting “mysterious spirits (artists)” who will lead Korean art toward the center of Asia and the world, was developed as an extension of New Face, a program that Art In Culture has continued since its founding. New Face has previously introduced artists including Gwon Osang, Noh Suntag, Lee Dongwook, Yim Ja Hyuk, Chun Sung-Myung, Choe U-Ram, Ham Younjoo, and Ham Jin.

This exhibition brings together once again the 17 “Yogoi” selected from among 462 applicants through an open call held earlier this year, offering a concise view of how much they have developed over the past year.

Through a wide range of programs—including touring exhibitions, artwork presentations, lectures, residency programs, overseas art fairs, and European art tours—the exhibition offers a glimpse of these emerging artists as they have grown and matured over the course of the year.

In preparation for the exhibition, the participating artists were also divided into four teams, each assigned an art critic and curator, allowing them to gain further firsthand experience in the contemporary art field. The exhibition provides an opportunity not only to anticipate the future trajectories of these “Yogoi,” who are just beginning their lives as artists, but also to envision new possibilities for Korean art.
