《Romance of Anxiety: Mackerel Safranski Solo Exhibition》 will be held from the 21st to December 19 at Corner Art Space in Sinsa-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul.

In this exhibition, Mackerel Safranski works with the two acts of “labor” and “sex” as subjects, addressing “our bodies that undergo themselves” and the anxiety carried by those bodies.

《Romance of Anxiety》(Corner Art Space, 2015) begins with questions about how the body left after love, and after sex, is remembered, and whether the remembered body can become an expanded body of the present. “Romance of Anxiety,” based on the belief that if we love, we must fully accept one another, is ultimately also a premonition that love will fail.

Romance always begins and ends, even while knowing its impossibility, pushed along irresistibly. Yet romance, comforted as a pure heart, leaves traces of anxiety on the body precisely because it is so foolish and cruel, and because it is a passion not easily experienced. Rather than simply depicting anxious emotions, the artist speaks about the body that feels anxiety, exploring the possibility of the ontological subjectivation of the body.
