The Hangaram Art Museum at the Seoul Arts Center has organized the 《Overseas Young Artists Exhibition》 since 2002, presenting emerging Korean artists who are establishing new territories for Korean contemporary art around the world. Now in its fourth edition, the exhibition will be held from June 10 to June 26 in Gallery 4 of the Hangaram Art Museum at the Seoul Arts Center.

This year’s exhibition features nine young artists active in the United States, the United Kingdom, France, and China—Kwon Namhee, Kim Song-I, Kim Eunkyung, Kim Jenna, Min Jungyeon, Park Wunggyu, Yang Heesung, Jeon Kyung, and Jung Seok Hee—offering Korean audiences an opportunity to encounter the artistic practices they have developed abroad.

The participating artists were selected through a recommendation process involving Korean Cultural Centers overseas, art critics, curators, and artists both in Korea and abroad, followed by review by a panel of art professionals and final selection by the Seoul Arts Center.

Eligibility was open to Korean artists under the age of forty-five (including members of the Korean diaspora) who have maintained an active artistic practice overseas for more than two years.

Reflecting the current prominence of painting within contemporary art while introducing diverse visual languages shaped by international experiences, the exhibition is expected to bring fresh perspectives to the Korean art scene.

Visitors will encounter a wide range of works, from paintings employing traditional media such as tempera, oil, and acrylic to works utilizing more recent approaches including drawing, tape, and video. Together, these works reveal new artistic worlds that resonate with our own cultural sensibilities.

To enhance understanding of the exhibition and the participating works, the exhibition is accompanied by a theoretical exploration of the concept and significance of “style” in contemporary art, as well as exhibition tours and artist talks.

The galleries are organized as individual presentation spaces, allowing each artist’s distinctive characteristics and visual language to be fully appreciated. Through these varied artistic expressions, visitors are invited to experience and reflect upon the value of contemporary art.
