《Fence-go-round》(Hall 1, 2025) is Ria Choi’s first solo exhibition, presenting the paper fence sculptures she has produced over the past four years.

Paper attached to the floor rises precariously to become a fence, grows like a living organism, or is born clinging to something like a dirty stream of urine. It melts and flows into the ground, or fragmented bodies stick back together again. In a manner close to a child’s craft, in the most simple form of pleasure.

The copper-colored paper oscillates between moments of iridescent brilliance and moments where it appears like excrement.

Originating from the “circular paddock,” a fence used to train horses, this body of work questions the force that surrounds us in circular motion and makes us walk repeatedly, as well as the boundaries through which that force operates. Objects that determine our position and path of movement. Just as the merry-go-round of an amusement park mimics ancient military training, here, the paper fence imitates a rigid metal fence, striking a comical pose.
