Hong Kyoungtack graduated from the Department of Painting at Kyungwon University (1995).

This March, during ART Basel Hong Kong, the largest art fair in Asia, a large-scale solo exhibition by Hong Kyoungtack—widely known as the “pencil artist”—will be held at PARKVIEW ART Hong Kong. The exhibition will present approximately 32 works, including paintings and media works featuring new pieces by the artist.
Previously, only one or two works of Hong Kyoungtack had been introduced at international art fairs such as ART Basel, leaving art professionals and collectors wanting more. Through this exhibition at PARKVIEW ART Hong Kong, the artist will showcase a wide range of works, including his representative ‘Pencil’ and ‘Bookshelf’ series.
This exhibition takes on the character of a retrospective, offering a comprehensive view of his entire artistic trajectory, and is expected to draw significant attention from both domestic and international collectors. In particular, the exhibition will feature a rare large-scale work (approximately 2 meters) from the Bookshelf series, as well as media works that hint at the future direction of his practice.

After graduating from Kyungwon University (now Gachon University), Hong Kyoungtack completed Pens 1 (259×581 cm) between 1995 and 1998. This work was sold at Christie’s Hong Kong in May 2013 for 960 million KRW, setting a record as the highest-priced Korean contemporary artwork ever sold at Christie’s, drawing considerable attention in the art world.
The work had originally been exhibited at the artist’s first solo exhibition in 2000 with a price of 30 million KRW, and even during its first auction at Christie’s Hong Kong in 2007, it had already set a record with a sale price of 777.6 million KRW. Given that Hong Kong was the city that brought him global recognition, this solo exhibition holds particular significance for the artist.
Hong Kyoungtack’s exhibition in Hong Kong was coordinated by the corporate art consulting gallery “atelier aki,” and the venue is PARKVIEW ART Hong Kong, a gallery operated by PARKVIEW Green Group in China.
