《2019 Pack: Adventure! Double Cross》 is held for ten days, from September 20 to 29, at Post Territory Ujeongguk in Sangsu-dong, Seoul. This event is organized as part of the 2019 “Support for Opening Artist Art Markets” project, supported by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Arts Management Support Center.
《2019 Pack: Adventure! Double Cross》 exhibits and sells more than 200 works by 33 domestic and international artists (teams). In addition, a variety of engaging programs are planned, including audience-participation talk programs and opening and closing DJ parties.
PACK is a new type of art fair that presents works through a transparent cube-shaped display system. Through this distinctive exhibition format using cubes that embody the aesthetic of contemporary architecture, it proposes a new sensibility in art collecting culture that reflects contemporary lifestyles.
Taking a new curatorial theme each year and building an entertaining event concept around it, PACK reaches its third edition this year with the theme “Adventure! Double Cross.” “Adventure! Double Cross” sets the cube as the smallest “micro-world” inhabited by artworks and actively invites viewers to embark on an adventure into the exciting worlds of these cubes, like multiple universes.
This event features 33 domestic and international artists (teams), including Kang Dongju, Kang Jeongseok, Kang Jeongin X Yoo Jiyoung, Gwalho, Great Minor, Kim Daehwan, Kim Yunsu, Kim Hansaem, Nosangho, Noh Eunjoo, Don Sunpil, Hansol Ryu, Park Gwangsu, Park Yoonji, Park Jihye, Oishi Kazuki, yooromo, Yun Jeongui, Ina Ha, I Mimi, Lee Mijeong, Lee Sookyung, Lee Yesul, Lim Sojin, Lim Changgon, Jeon Hyeonseon, Jeon Heesu, Kaya Studio, Kudo Rena, Kumakura Ryoko, Heo Hyeonjeong, BEM, and TYM344, presenting intriguing works shown only in 《2019 Pack: Adventure! Double Cross》.
Each participating artist makes full use of a single cube as a complete exhibition space, and through more than 30 cubes and an “open storage system,” audiences can view over 200 exhibited works at once. Spirited and dense artworks across a range of genres—from traditional media such as painting and sculpture to installation, media, craft, design, fashion, and branding—are set to fill the cubes.
In particular, in 《2019 Pack: Adventure! Double Cross》, more than 30 cubes are spread at the venue as though suspended in zero gravity, and the experience of walking through that panoramic scene while viewing the works will offer a new sensibility to audiences accustomed to today’s digital media environment.
Using the specific space of the cube as a medium, PACK seeks to reach more potential collectors by enabling creators to present new forms of work and allowing audiences to purchase limited-edition works that are not easily encountered, through an intuitive purchasing system and reasonable prices. At the same time, by presenting itself as an unusual platform with an exhibition character different from that of an ordinary art fair, and by being created anew each year with different artists, it demonstrates a meaningful attempt to approach alternative modes of exhibiting and selling art.
Meanwhile, this edition of 《2019 Pack: Adventure! Double Cross》 unfolds together with a special curated section, “STATION!,” linked to the main event composed of cubes. A special exhibition will introduce representative works by 11 young artists from Korea and Japan in an exhibition space outside the cubes, and an archive section will present artist materials such as limited-edition catalogs, publications, goods, and artist notes by the 33 participating artists (teams), offering a rich array of things to see.
In addition, a curatorial talk program titled “Double Cross: Yoonik X Yuki,” which weaves together examples of works by Korean and Japanese artists in the form of comic banter, will be held, and on the first and last days of the event, DJ performance parties by musician Choi Young and Kisewa of the DJ crew Bazookapo will take place respectively. In this way, 《2019 Pack: Adventure! Double Cross》 arrives for ten days this fall with a variety of programs capable of satisfying audiences’ distinctive tastes as well as popular appeal.
