Hyunjeong Lim’s solo exhibition 《Inspiration Point》 will be held at A-Lounge from February 11 to February 28, 2023. 《Inspiration Point》 consists entirely of the artist’s latest drawings and presents numerous works that incorporate the imaginative world of Northern Renaissance painting. After laying down a base color in acrylic, Lim builds forms with ink pen and pastel pencil.

The twenty drawings reveal surreal landscapes of the American West encountered after the artist’s move to the United States, scenes from her personal life, and imagination-stimulating motifs dispersed throughout the compositions like a hidden picture puzzle.

During her time studying in London, Lim developed an interest in the ink drawings and complex, realistic compositional structures of the Renaissance period after seeing a large exhibition of Leonardo da Vinci at the National Gallery. Since then, she has mainly created acrylic paintings that borrow the pictorial worlds of Bosch and Bruegel while incorporating her own personal experiences and imagination.

However, this exhibition is composed exclusively of drawings characterized by a more spontaneous and intuitive approach. By adopting drawing as a format that more directly captures her working process—beginning from a single point and gradually assembling infinite forms that emerge in her mind—the exhibition attempts to trace the “inspiration point” that has long formed the foundation of Lim’s painting practice.
