To commemorate the 10th anniversary of its opening, the Leeum Museum of Art presents the exhibition 《Leeum 10th Anniversary Exhibition: Beyond and Between》 from August 19 to December 21. This exhibition marks the first time since the museum’s opening that all spaces of Leeum are utilized for a single exhibition. It is a large-scale curatorial project organized under the overarching theme of “communion,” encompassing MUSEUM 1, which displays Korean traditional art; MUSEUM 2, which presents contemporary art from Korea and abroad; as well as the special exhibition spaces Black Box, Ground Gallery, and the lobby.

MUSEUM 1, the permanent gallery for Korean traditional art, is organized around the theme “Communion Across Time.” Representative works from the museum’s collection of traditional Korean art are displayed alongside contemporary artworks, encouraging dialogue and resonance between works of art that transcend historical periods. In MUSEUM 2, the conventional classification of collection displays based on geographic region or chronology is set aside. Instead, the exhibition explores artistic exchanges between Eastern and Western contemporary art under the theme “Communion Between East and West.”

Meanwhile, the special exhibition spaces focus on the theme “Communion with the Audience.” Works that emphasize communication and participation are presented, reflecting the growing importance of the viewer’s role within contemporary art. Through this approach, the exhibition expresses Leeum’s intention to engage more closely with its audiences and to position the museum as a more accessible cultural space.

A series of five lectures will be held in connection with the exhibition to commemorate the museum’s 10th anniversary. These programs will feature participating artists speaking directly about their works and artistic practices. In addition, various educational programs will be offered, including an “interactive media program” that allows visitors to share their memories of the exhibition with other audiences, as well as “Create Your Own Leeum Map,” an activity designed specifically for younger visitors.
