Choi Jeonghwa graduated from the Department of Painting at Hongik University and built his foundation through work as an interior designer at architectural sites. In 1989, he founded the Institute of ‘Gasum Visual development Laboratory’, expanding his artistic world. After participating in the São Paulo Biennial in 1998, he began receiving international attention through invitations to global exhibitions. Since then, he has broadened his activities through installations and public projects using everyday consumer goods, establishing himself as a leading installation artist in contemporary Korea.

‘Choi Jeonghwa’s flower’ has previously
been presented at symbolic sites around the world, including in front of San
Francisco City Hall, Kyiv’s Maidan Square, the Sydney Botanical Garden, the
Venice Biennale, and the runway of Fukuoka Airport, and will be exhibited in
Korea for the first time.
Super-large ‘flowers’ measuring 12m, 8m,
and 4m will be installed on the water around Some Sevit in Banpo Hangang Park
and revealed to the public from the 24th.
Since the 1990s, Choi Jeonghwa has been
active in biennales and international exhibitions worldwide as an installation
artist representing Korean contemporary art, while also working across diverse
fields including interior design, film, architecture, stage design, and
directing as an all-around artist.
Breathing Flower, which
will be permanently installed at Some Sevit, is expected to become an ‘icon of
the Han River’ together with the Moonlight Rainbow Fountain.
