The artists participating in Project SPOT-light sense the traces of human life embedded within “Avenue,” an aging mixed-use commercial-residential complex in Ilsan. Since the late 2000s, as its visitors dwindled amid environmental change, they observe what still “opens and blooms of its own accord”: the human lives that continue to inhabit it and the history of the space itself.

Grounded in these delicate perceptions, each artist uses their work as a “spotlight” to illuminate the desolate site of the arcade. They cast bright light over its interior and exterior, revealing the histories and lived rhythms that had faded from view. Under that light, what had been only dimly sensed now emerges clearly to us all—including the artists themselves. And beneath this renewed radiance, we and the “Avenue” finally resume the unfinished conversation once left behind.
