60 years has passed since the April 19 Revolutionary Day. How has voting changed our lives? In what ways elections and voting become the platform for contemporary art?

The exhibition based on archival social drama 《The Better Man 1948–2020 : Pick Your Representative for the National Assembly》 comprises 73 years of the history of election since the Constitutional Assembly Election on May 10 in 1948, known to be the first modern election, to the 21st National Assembly Election on April 15 in 2020. The exhibition intends to investigate the impact of voter participation on history dramatically developed at a crossroads of change concerning the individual lives and the fate of the nation.

This exhibition includes the collections of the National Election Commission with its 400 election materials, news articles and the multilayered archive of the history of election along with multifarious artworks inclusive of installation, performance art, literature, drama, game, and music created by 21 contemporary artist teams to realize an event competition and appreciation. To this day, there exists the antagonism between opposing political orientations assembled at Gwanghwamun Square located in front of the Ilmin Museum of Art.

《The Better Man 1948–2020》 bridges the museum and Gwanghwamun Square to reproduce the democracy of integrated time and space in the past, present and future within the realm of art. In this exhibition, a variety of desires infused in the electoral system is manifested in forms of the psychological game, party, and festival. The exhibition authorizes the audiences to willingly express and further explores the form of art of which functions as political representation, communication, and campaign of the artist.
