From November 24 to December 16, the exhibition space Re:Plat in Jung-gu, Seoul presents Uljiro Kim’s solo exhibition 《Potting》. Having shown various 3D graphic works grounded in a sustained interest in plants, the artist focuses here on the similarities between the ways indoor plants and 3D graphics are consumed, presenting a digital plant video and photo works derived from it.

The centerpiece video Potting features four types of digital plants. Through this, the artist asks whether it is truly natural that graphics shared via media always appear sleek and “perfect,” much like indoor plants selectively bred—down to their genotypes—for visual appeal, prompting a reconsideration of the properties of 3D graphics. Further, the video Soil mixing, which openly includes glitches—usually removed in 3D production—underscores this question even more explicitly.

In addition, the photo series ‘Harvesting perspective’, derived from the video Potting, and Sequence, which outputs the video’s sequences as continuous images, offer a glimpse into the artist’s working methods and processes. As the artist’s first offline solo exhibition, this show invites viewers to imagine the hidden backstories of subjects that have long been obscured by our visual desires.

Re:Plat is a small exhibition space specializing in two-dimensional work that explores the intrinsic value of visual art. With a focus on discovering and introducing emerging artists who are not yet widely known to the public, the venue plans to continue engaging audiences through a variety of exhibitions.
