A product becomes “secondhand” when someone has used it and left traces of that use. Once no longer new, it typically loses appeal and value for consumers. But what if we applied this logic to artworks? Do artworks, too, lose value when used and marked, or do they instead acquire unique value? In 《Firsthand Shop》, two artists exhibit works created from their own lived experiences, using them within the exhibition space.

Through the weathered works of Sunho Park and Jayoung Hong, which appear sufficiently aged, the exhibition explores the boundaries between artworks and commodities, and the question of how art may be “used.” The traces of time embedded in their works evoke specific past moments, yet remain unsold as “new vintage,” carrying distinctive status. Unlike a secondhand shop, this exhibition presents the transitional state in which firsthand experience becomes secondhand usage.
