Artist Ahn Kyuchul, President of the School of Visual Arts at Korea National University of Arts, has been selected as the recipient of the Art Canal Prize at 《Fluid Art Canal 2006》, an international outdoor exhibition officially sponsored by Swiss watch brand RADO.

RADO stated that Ahn was highly regarded for his insight and creativity in fully understanding the exhibition’s central theme of “water” and translating it into a work of distinctive form. The company further noted that Ahn’s artistic vision closely aligns with RADO’s pursuit of a new visual identity centered on the concepts of “liquid” and “flow,” describing his work as a strong embodiment of the brand’s artistic sensibility.

Ahn Kyuchul, who studied sculpture at Seoul National University, is widely known as a conceptual artist whose practice departs from traditional sculptural materials. Instead, he works primarily with everyday objects such as fabric, metal, and wood, as well as language, as central artistic media.

The outdoor exhibition, held in Korea for the second time following its presentation in Le Landeron, Switzerland, will take place from the 27th through December 1 along the Gapcheon River in Daejeon. A total of 45 artists from three countries are participating.

The exhibition features works created around the theme of “water” by 15 Korean artists—including Ahn Kyuchul, Cho Sook-jin, Hong Myung-seop, and Bok Jong-sun—alongside prominent artists from Switzerland and Germany. The works are presented floating on the river.

Launched in 2002 by the Art Canal Association in Biel, Switzerland, the project was established to serve as a bridge for the exchange of nature, art, and culture among Switzerland, Korea, and Germany. Since establishing its art gallery in 1987, RADO has built a collection of works by renowned artists and has continued to actively support artists and cultural initiatives.
