The list of artists participating in the Korean Pavilion at the 51st Venice Biennale, opening on June 12, has been officially announced.

According to the Arts Council Korea, the participating artists include Choi Jeonghwa, Gimhongsok, Kim Sora, Jung Yeondoo, and the late Bahc Yiso, along with a total of 15 artists.

The Korean Pavilion exhibition, whose number of artists has more than doubled from seven in 2003, has been titled 'The Secret Behind the Door' and will present diverse aspects of Korean contemporary art that have absorbed and appropriated cultural changes at home and abroad since the 1990s.

In his remarks, Arts Council Korea chairman Hyun Ki Young said he hopes the selected artists will clearly convey the voice of Korean contemporary art to the global art world.

Meanwhile, artist Kimsooja will participate in the Biennale’s international exhibition, directed by co-artistic director Rosa Martinez, together with 48 artists from around the world.

This year’s Venice Biennale runs until November 6, and the Korean Pavilion commissioner is Sunjung Kim, former deputy director of Art Sonje Center.
