Funded as a tribute to the memory of the late Sungkon Kim, also known by his pen-name Sungkok, the Sungkok Art Museum has launched a special project for young emerging Korean artists, ‘Artists of Tomorrow’ since 1998. In honor of his lifelong commitment to cultivating young Korean talents, The exhibition 《Awardees, 1998-2007》 seeks to echo both the traditions and future-oriented ideals of Korean modern art.

Perspiration alone does not make a great artist. For young artistic talents to blossom, it takes institutional support and professional guidance as well as enthusiasm and encouragement from the audience. Indeed, institutional support is an important factor influencing how far an artist may rise. Therefore, central to the mission of the Sungkok Art Museum is the encouragement and support of young bright Korean artists.

It is based on our belief that a museum, a form of artistic institution, should be dedicated to its role as the foremost institutional advocate of Korean artists. It is with great pleasure that we present the works of the 33 artists of domestic and international acclaim. We extend our deepest gratitude to the Artists of Tomorrow as well as the audience and the many artists who have shared their works and talents with us.
