Kumho Museum of Art presents Part 2 of the exhibition 《2021 Kumho Young Artist》 from April 30 to June 6, following the conclusion of Part 1. 《2021 Kumho Young Artist》 Part 2 features solo exhibitions by two artists—Hejum Bä and Jung Jin—who were selected through the museum’s 18th open call held in 2020.

In her solo exhibition 《Plotless》, Hejum Bä reinterprets the concept of a “plot” as a painting methodology, presenting a series of abstract paintings composed of bold colors and geometric planes. Within the internal logic of each composition, structures emerge and dissolve, creating space for surrounding forms to appear and traverse between them. While these abstract compositions are not meant to be literally decoded, they possess a rhythm of legibility that operates implicitly—what the artist frames as the structural logic of a “plot.” As a compositional device, the plot functions as a mode of organically arranging multiple elements, suggesting fluid variations and relationships that continuously expand the pictorial field.

Bä contrasts the oversaturated legibility of today’s digital images and media with the natural, inherent rhythms of abstract painting, where forms emerge through the combination or shedding of structure. Her paintings reflect on the essential spontaneity of the medium, drawing attention to its capacity for unplanned movement and layered complexity. Through this process, the exhibition invites viewers to build their own unique sense of structure and flow—creating an open space where the paintings may be experienced freely and without preconceived frameworks.
