WWNN presents
the group exhibition 《Disturbed Pleasure》, on view through June 24.
Human
responses to unsettling scenes rarely resolve into a single emotion. Fear often
becomes entangled with curiosity, while attraction and aversion coexist in a
state of ambivalence. The gaze lingers, unable to withdraw easily, and judgment
is momentarily suspended.
The
sensations that emerge in such moments are less a matter of emotional confusion
than a temporary disruption of familiar structures of perception.

《Disturbed
Pleasure》 dwells within this interval, when sensation precedes judgment.
Before interpreting the images before them, viewers become aware of where their
gaze and attention come to rest.
Within this
brief hesitation, the works resist immediate explanation, leaving behind a
tension that cannot be easily resolved.
