Wonho Lee (39, video installation), Sunkyung Jang (28, installation), Chung Heeseung (37, photography), and Kyungwoo Han (32, video installation) have been selected as finalists for the 11th SongEun Art Award, organized by the SONGEUN Art and Cultural Foundation.

The four artists will present their works at SongEun Art Space in Cheongdam-dong, Seoul, from December 9, 2011, to January 21, 2012, where their works will be evaluated by a panel of judges.

The Grand Prize winner will receive KRW 20 million and an opportunity to hold a solo exhibition at SongEun Art Space. The three Excellence Award winners will each receive KRW 10 million.

Wonho Lee presents The White Field, a work exploring the essence of objects. The project involves removing white boundary lines from tennis courts and soccer fields, erasing their traces in the process. Through this intervention, Lee questions the order, authority, and spatial characteristics defined by these lines. He also presents Time Exposure, in which paint is stripped from existing walls and reassembled on new surfaces.

Sunkyung Jang presents a container-like structure that fills the exhibition space, while Chung Hee-seung showcases photographic works documenting staged situations involving everyday objects and the human body.

Kyungwoo Han, whose work visualizes the ambiguous boundary between optical illusion and reality, presents Star Pattern Shirt, a work incorporating real-time surveillance cameras.

The Grand Prize winner will be announced later this month.

Meanwhile, the SongEun Art Award, established in 2001, has revised its evaluation process this year. Previously, candidates were assessed solely on their online portfolios and a single physical artwork submitted for the final round. The addition of an exhibition is intended to allow for a more in-depth evaluation of each artist's practice.
