Artue, an AI-powered art discovery and commerce platform, announced on September 30 that it had successfully concluded 《Artue: GPT Curator》, a project held in collaboration with OpenAI at MB2, OpenAI’s headquarters in Mission Bay, San Francisco.

The project was organized for OpenAI employees during DevDay, held from September 28 to 29, combining an exhibition of Korean contemporary art with Artue’s conversational AI service. It offered an integrated art experience that began with viewing physical artworks and extended to a virtual exhibition experience, artwork discovery through ChatGPT, and purchasing.

The exhibition featured four Korean artists: Doongji Kim, Jina Jung, Jaebum Joo, and Miseon Yoon. Visitors viewed paintings on site, experienced a virtual exhibition through interactive screens, and then scanned QR codes to continue exploring through the Artue app within ChatGPT.

Based on natural-language conversation, the Artue app provides background information on artists and artworks and recommends works that align with users’ tastes and interests. For artworks available for purchase, the service also connects users directly to the payment process, creating a seamless experience from viewing and information discovery to acquisition.

This project marked the first collaboration between Artue and OpenAI to integrate physical and virtual exhibitions with AI-based discovery and purchasing functions. It expanded the conventional process of viewing artworks at an art fair, gathering information, and deciding whether to purchase into the realm of conversational AI. Rather than serving merely as a tool for explaining artworks, AI functions as an interface that helps users discover and purchase works based on their questions and interests.

The company explained that this structure also provides galleries with a new global distribution and marketing channel. Based on the interests and questions expressed by Artue users within ChatGPT, works represented by galleries on the Artue platform can be surfaced in recommendation results. Small and mid-sized galleries with limited marketing and international sales resources can likewise move beyond the constraints of physical exhibition spaces, introduce their works to audiences and collectors worldwide, and expand sales opportunities.

Bo Young Song, CEO of Artue, said, “The art experience Artue is creating connects the interest sparked in front of an artwork to discovery and purchase through conversations with AI,” adding, “We will continue to expand our services and partner network so that artists and galleries can connect with global audiences and collectors.”

A reception for OpenAI employees was also held on September 28, the first day of the event.

Operated by Habitus Associate, Artue is an AI-powered art discovery and commerce platform. Based on natural-language conversations, users’ tastes, and spatial context, it recommends artworks and connects the entire process from discovery to purchase. By combining physical artworks with digital experiences, the platform aims to make art more accessible to users while connecting galleries with collectors around the world.
