After completing PhD coursework in Creative and Cultural Entrepreneurship at Goldsmiths, University of London in 2015, Sung has served as a research professor at New York University (NYU) since 2021, while pursuing a range of initiatives aimed at promoting fairness and sustainability within the art ecosystem in Korea and abroad.

Since 2024, she has led Solidarity K-Art, an artists’ organization that seeks to protect the rights and interests of visual artists and expand collaborative networks, while creating a foundation for artists to voice their perspectives and engage with social issues.

On April 12, Sung is scheduled to participate as a social artist in the inaugural ceremony of BEBEART, a social enterprise dedicated to supporting the arts, where she will present her work and take part in the on-site program. BEBEART is a new type of social enterprise that connects artists with society and aims to introduce a new model for an arts patronage platform through its launch.

Sung also serves on the organizing committee of the “A4 Action 2025” project, which puts the concept of “Art Action” into practice. Drawing on South Korea’s historical experiences surrounding martial law and impeachment, the project proposes artistic practices that respond to the country’s political and social context in 2025. Its distinguishing feature is its engagement with social change through diverse forms of artistic expression presented beyond conventional art spaces, including public places and online platforms.

Beyond her creative practice, Starya Hee-seung Sung has been presenting a new model within the Korean and international art and cultural sectors as an entrepreneurial artist who connects art with society. Growing attention is being directed toward her future activities.
