The AHL Foundation, chaired by Sook Nyu Lee and dedicated to discovering emerging artists primarily in New York, has announced the winners of its 7th Annual Visual Arts Competition.

While the AHL Foundation has selected four award recipients each year, this year it chose a total of five winners based on strong recommendations from the jurors.

Ji Eun Kim received the Grand Prize, followed by Eunjung Hwang with the Gold Prize, Heejung Cho with the Silver Prize, YOO GeoSang with the Bronze Prize, and Lee Ha with an Honorable Mention.

Grand Prize winner Ji Eun Kim received both her BFA and MFA from the Department of Painting at Seoul National University and later studied at Cranbrook Academy of Art, among other institutions. Since holding a solo exhibition in Korea in 2005, she has participated in numerous group exhibitions in Korea and the United States.

She has also taken part in a residency program at the Kimmel Harding Nelson Center for the Arts and received prestigious fellowships from institutions including the Vermont Studio Center and the Matisse Foundation.

The winners will receive their prize money and plaques at an awards ceremony to be held during the AHL Foundation’s annual fundraising event scheduled for October.

Meanwhile, a group exhibition featuring the award recipients is scheduled to take place at a gallery in Chelsea in January 2011.
