Don Sunpil’s solo exhibition 《Kai • Ju • People》 questions the ways in which the constraints of reality relate to images in visual culture. With the advancement of CG technology today, visual images have become capable of depicting the world with increasing precision.

Yet under conditions of virtually unlimited possibilities for manipulation, a flawlessly and perfectly rendered reality becomes, paradoxically, detached from the actual world, which is full of limitations.

《Kai • Ju • People》 refers to the methodology of tokusatsu, a genre of moving image that developed a distinctive grammar of production through the process of accommodating and overcoming various real-world limitations.

Dr. Hakase’s science broadcast, which explores the process by which abstract states appear in the form of concrete objects, and sculptural works that reflect the physical conditions involved in occupying space, seek methodologies for preserving reality by accepting the constraints of the real world.
