Galleries and art magazines are running a variety of support programs, including exhibitions featuring promising graduates from art schools.

Gallery Hyundai Gangnam is presenting works by 20 artists selected from students graduating at the end of February through the exhibition 《Class of 2010》, while the monthly art magazine 『Art in Culture』 recently selected its “Best 21” through an open call for recent graduates and announced a range of programs for the chosen artists.

Running from February 17 to March 7, 《Class of 2010》 is a special exhibition that the gallery is organizing for the second consecutive year. Promising university graduates are selected and given an opportunity to present their graduation works while making their debut as artists.

Gallery Hyundai director Do Hyung-teh stated, “Each year, through the 《Emerging Artists》 exhibition held at the beginning of the year, we plan to continue providing presentation opportunities for young artists who will go on to lead Korean art.” This year, 20 artists from 15 schools were selected from approximately 2,000 art students at 57 universities nationwide.

《Class of 2010》 presents works by artists in their twenties distinguished by bold ideas and imagination, including Life Jam No. 7 by Jung Woo-chul, 25, a prospective graduate of the School of Visual Arts at Korea National University of Arts, and Toy Republic by Ko Min-gyu, 26, who majored in painting at Kyung Hee University.

Meanwhile, the monthly art magazine 『Art in Culture』 has been running a program for discovering and fostering emerging artists under the name 'Dongbang Yogoi(Monsters of the East)' for the second year. The magazine recently selected 21 artists for 2010 from among 461 applicants representing 67 universities nationwide.

Their works will be introduced at the Geisai Art Festival, to be held in Tokyo, Japan, on March 14, as well as at art fairs in Beijing, Hong Kong, and Shanghai. In Korea, the program will also organize discussion sessions with curators and critics and publish an annual and a collection of works.

A group exhibition featuring the 21 selected artists, including Kang Bo-eun, Kwak Sang-won, Min Jin Young, Seo Hee-won, Lee Ki-yeon, Lee Hyun-jin, Jeong Joo-hee, and Cho Junyong, will be held at Doosan Art Center from December 23 through January 20 of the following year.
