Shinhan Gallery Gwanghwamun presents 《Fundamental Space》, a solo exhibition by Min Jin Young, selected for the Shinhan Young Artist Festa, from December 13, 2012, to January 12, 2013.

Min Jin Young’s work begins with memories of childhood. Through old and faded personal memories, the artist seeks to suggest that genuine meaning cannot be reached without passing through things that are trivial, meaningless, and worn by time.

She states, “We already know too much barbarism to indulge in Romantic dreams. In order to confront the present in its fullest sense, we must pass through memories that are exceedingly trivial, long gone, and worn out,” and searches for new possibilities much like the Surrealists, who had to take the detour of the “surreal” in order to pursue what was most real.

In this exhibition, Min Jin Young combines the industrial material of cement with the immaterial medium of light to present distinctive installation and video works.
