Works by artists from Chungcheongbuk-do captured the attention of local audiences at Art Market Budapest in Hungary, the largest art market in Central Europe.

According to the Chungbuk Cultural Foundation (CEO Kim Gap-soo) and the Korean Cultural Center Hungary (Director In Suk Jin) on the 23rd, the Chungbuk booths participating in Art Market Budapest attracted numerous art professionals and visitors and received considerable attention from local media.

Held in Budapest, Hungary, from the 18th to the 22nd, the art market brought together around 100 galleries from 30 countries. The Chungbuk Cultural Foundation operated two booths: “Art Project,” a special section introducing curatorial approaches and experimental works by emerging artists, and “Art Photo,” which presented contemporary Korean photography.

At the Art Project booth, Yoonah Kim addressed questions surrounding the value of things that are lost or discarded through a ceramic process that transforms discarded clothing into ceramic forms.

Lee Seung Mi presented a process of creating her own patterns through family relationships shaped by the passage of time and generational change, while Choi JaeYoung explored acts of seeking balance through distinctive characteristics that emerge during his painting process.

At the Art Photo booth, photographer Han Hee Joon drew the attention of local art professionals with works that use analogue photographic techniques to record the time it takes for plastic to return to nature, expressed through a painterly approach.

In addition, Hungary’s public broadcaster MTVA aired an interview with the curator of the Chungbuk booths at Art Market Budapest, along with an introduction to the booths.

CEO Kim Gap-soo said, “Beginning with the preview day on the 18th and the official opening on the 19th, the event brought together many leading figures from the Central European art scene, providing an opportunity to introduce Chungbuk artists and trends in contemporary art while expanding our networks.”

He added, “The foundation will continue to build diverse international networks to promote the artistic activities of artists from our region and establish a broader foundation for their creative practices.”
