Park Seok Min’s solo exhibition 《Vortex 8》 will be held at A-Lounge from November 7 to December 6, 2023.

Taking place one year after his 2022 solo exhibition at EveryArt, the exhibition presents a new subject, the image of the vortex, as an extension of the visual experiments on time and space that Park has long pursued. The exhibition space is largely organized into three parts: “Vortex-Counterpoint,” “Old Present,” and Dark Mining.

The keyword is “movement.” Beginning from a simulation video of the solar system orbiting the center of the Milky Way and from a mobile titled “Counterpoint,” the ‘Vortex-Counterpoint’ series visualizes movement(Vortex-Counterpoint 001-003) or leads the viewer into an elevated state of motion within the vortex(Vortex-Counterpoint 05).

The completed picture plane seems to express a four-dimensional space, yet Park Seok Min does not pursue the physical space of the universe as understood by physics. Rather, he presents a movement internally adapted into his own visual language. The artist’s persistence in capturing movement expands into a mode of expression that transcends the boundaries between figuration and abstraction, material and immaterial.

“Old Present” and Dark Mining are examples of this, attempting forms without clear distinctions between top and bottom, or disturbing depth by repeating protrusion and subsidence.

The exhibition includes a total of eleven works: two works from the ‘Vortex-Counterpoint’ series, four works from “Old Present,” one work titled Dark Mining, and four works from the ‘Relachio’ series. Two additional ‘Vortex-Counterpoint’ works are installed in the inner office.
