The Daejeon Cultural Foundation, headed by CEO Park Sang-eun, has finalized the selection of artists who will join the second residency cohort at Artist Residency TEMI in 2015.

The open call for the second cohort, which began on the 27th of last month, received applications from a total of 73 artists or teams, comprising 66 from Korea and seven from overseas. This represented an increase of more than 30 percent compared with the number of applicants for the inaugural residency cohort selected in February of this year.

A total of eight artists or teams were selected: Juree Kim, Park Soyoung, Lee Sun Hee, Youngjoo Cho, and Kiwon Hong in the domestic category, and The Bite Back Movement from the United Kingdom, Jurgen Dunhofen from South Africa, and Tiziana Jill Beck from Germany in the international category.

Following an orientation held on the 26th, the selected artists are scheduled to move into Artist Residency TEMI on the 5th of next month and begin their creative activities.

Oh Inhwan, chair of the selection committee, commented, “Considering that this is a newly established residency in only its first year, the overall application rate was high and the standard of the artists was quite impressive. The selected artists are distinctive, proactive, and dedicated, which raises expectations for the direction of the second cohort. As a creative center with an initial focus on incubation, I hope it will develop into a distinctive and differentiated residency through active programs, including a commitment to diverse forms of collaboration.”
