A Korean artist based in France, Min Jungyeon, has been awarded the 3rd Prix des Partenaires organized by the Musée d’Art Moderne de Saint-Étienne Métropole. As part of the award, she was given the honor of presenting a solo exhibition from June 23 to September 30.

Titled 《Asking My Shoes Which Way to Go》, the exhibition featured twenty-two drawings by the artist. A sixty-page exhibition catalogue was also published and distributed through the French museum network, making the exhibition a significant turning point in Min Jungyeon’s emergence on the international art scene.

The Musée d’Art Moderne de Saint-Étienne Métropole is one of France’s leading museums of modern and contemporary art, housing more than 20,000 works by major artists including Claude Monet, Alberto Magnelli, and Pablo Picasso. Since Hungarian curator Lorand Hegyi assumed the directorship in 2003, the museum has become known for presenting a wide range of notable exhibitions.

The Prix des Partenaires was established in 2009 by approximately ten Saint-Étienne-based partner companies—including the retail group Casino and CIC Bank—to support talented young artists working in France. The award particularly focuses on drawing-based practices.

In fact, Min Jungyeon began concentrating on drawing the previous year while expecting her first child, replacing acrylic paints and other chemical materials with pen and pencil.

During this period, she participated in the Drawing Now Paris fair, where her work caught the attention of the organizers of the Prix des Partenaires. Following a three-stage selection process, she was ultimately chosen as the award recipient. Adding to the significance of the occasion, Min gave birth to her first child around the opening of the exhibition, marking a moment of double celebration.

Born in 1979, Min Jungyeon graduated from Hongik University’s Department of Painting before moving to France in 2002, where she completed her studies at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris.

Following her highly successful first solo exhibition at the Korean Cultural Center in France in 2004, she received invitations from numerous gallerists and went on to exhibit in Paris, Zurich, and Seoul, while actively participating in international art fairs.

Her debut solo exhibition is particularly remembered as the inaugural exhibition of the Emerging Artists Exhibition Series, the first open-call exhibition program initiated by former director Mo Chul-min at the Korean Cultural Center in France.

Following her exhibition at the Musée d’Art Moderne de Saint-Étienne Métropole, Min Jungyeon was scheduled to present further exhibitions at Galerie Maria Lund in Paris, K.O.N.G Gallery in Seoul, Galerie Kashya Hildebrand in Switzerland, and Hada Contemporary in London.
