A solo exhibition by Yoo Hwasoo, 《The Place of Weeds》, will be held at T1 Pavilion, Oil Tank Culture Park, from December 10, 2021, to January 9, 2022.

In this exhibition, the artist cultivates nameless weeds by applying smart farm technology to their ecological data. Originally developed for food crops, smart farm technology in this project serves a new purpose: caring for the lives of overlooked, nameless weeds—a perspective that reveals the hidden layers of technology and its implications.

Food crops grown in artificially controlled environments through advanced technology remain unaffected by natural conditions. The smart farm system optimizes growing conditions, ensuring maximum efficiency, convenience, and labor reduction while producing high-quality crops. However, this technological optimization raises issues of selective enhancement—leading to the exclusion of less favorable species—reflecting an anthropocentric perspective on utility and the ethical dilemmas that arise from it.

《The Place of Weeds》 examines these issues within the smart farm system, raising awareness of the hierarchical valuation of life and exploring alternative approaches to coexisting with nature in a technology-driven world.
