Canon Korea announced on the 22nd that it successfully concluded the screening event “Jang Minseung’s Photo Theater: Wiro ː 緯路 (hereafter Wiro),” held in collaboration with media artist Jang Minseung for registered Canon customers. The event was designed to allow audiences to directly experience Canon’s latest imaging technologies and creator-centered philosophy through an immersive artistic experience that crosses the boundaries between photography and moving image.

“Jang Minseung’s Photo Theater: Wiro ː 緯路 (hereafter Wiro)” took place on the 18th at Lotte Cinema World Tower in Jamsil, with approximately 300 registered Canon customers in attendance. Jang Minseung, a media artist selected as a 2025 Canon Master, has been recognized in the fields of contemporary art and experimental film, notably winning the 2014 Hermès Foundation Missulsang for his representative work voiceless.

Jang Minseung’s photo theater “Wiro” focuses on delivering deep contemplation and emotional resonance to the audience through restrained visual aesthetics, music, and the passage of time, rather than overt visual spectacle. The event began with the screening of Canon R’s advertisement film Depth of Detail, featuring Jang Minseung, and continued with a session in which the artist took the stage to explain the concept and worldview of the photo theater while engaging directly with the audience.

In particular, the screening drew attention with the premiere of newly produced footage shot by Jang Minseung using EOS C50, Canon Korea’s latest cinema camera, and the next-generation all-around full-frame mirrorless camera EOS R6 Mark III. Through a large-scale screen and sound system, audiences were able to experience firsthand the level of detail and image quality enabled by Canon’s latest optical technologies.

A special segment also presented Jang Minseung’s major works in the DCP (Digital Cinema Package) format. The screening included three works: voiceless, which mourns the victims of the Sewol Ferry Disaster and captures the unspoken emotional moments of grief; over there, which poetically observes spatial and relational distance; and Wake up call, which depicts fractures in everyday life and the vibrations of emotion.

Meanwhile, the compact cinema camera EOS C50 and the all-around full-frame mirrorless EOS R6 Mark III, which contributed to the immersive experience of the photo theater, are considered Canon Korea’s key strategic new products for the second half of the year. These devices feature capabilities optimized for both video and photography, including 7K open-gate support and a next-generation autofocus system based on deep learning.

Park Jung-woo, CEO of Canon Korea, stated, “This photo theater is the result of the meeting between Jang Minseung’s philosophical perspective and Canon’s technological capabilities,” adding, “Based on Canon’s belief that the best technology ultimately lies in perfectly realizing the experience of both creators and audiences, we will continue to be a reliable partner that inspires our customers’ lives.”
