Artist Hyunjeong Lim presents a new body of work created in San Francisco, after her move from Korea to the US in 2018. Lim has entitled these new works as 《Strangers in a Strange World》 after the novel, as the sentiment resembles her current situation.

Hyunjeong Lim is interested in the notion of unconscious memories and creating an imaginary world. She primarily practices intuitive drawing here and visualizes a mindscape by referencing the northern Renaissance master’s paintings. She sees the possibility of finding connections with art history in her own practice and aims to produce a surrealistic view of the real world by combining historical painting traditions with her inner imaginary landscape.

Lim’s works are now influenced by the much-celebrated Californian weather, landscape and diverse communities. Embodying these experiences into her practice, she wishes to explore and develop new painterly expression and expand upon the current theme.
