Blooming grass peeks through the
cracks of broken bricks, hands brushing against the leaves—hazy like a dream
yet reminiscent of vividly familiar landscapes. These fleeting moments embody
the small yet intense experiences of our rapidly passing daily lives. Familiar
yet unfamiliar scenes invite us to pause. An accidental glance from another
person breaks down barriers, revealing fragments long buried in our memories.
Covered eyes and quivering imaginations confront unexpected perspectives.
Defining boundaries between
objects and spaces involves delineating limits, yet these borders ultimately
depend on our perception of the world. In the mundane routines of life, we must
embrace the unfamiliar as something unique rather than uncomfortable, seeking
intersections within the countless boundaries constructed by ourselves and
others.
Chansong Kim explores unfamiliar
sights in her body series, drawing inspiration from unexpected reflections in
mirrors. In her garden series, she captures how familiar environments transform
as they adapt to new surroundings. Rather than merely presenting body parts,
she evokes both strangeness and a sense of unity by blurring the boundaries of
identity through faceless figures, captivating the viewer. The boundaries of
life encountered in nature feel both familiar and alien. Kim’s bold brush
strokes and thick layers of paint create a vivid three-dimensional effect that
deeply engages the audience.

Chanmi Heo focuses on the
often-overlooked elements in the landscapes she captures during her walks. By
reframing these neglected aspects, her work brings them into a new light. With
a gentle gaze, she gathers tangible items like fabric, fallen twigs, and leaves
to use as brushes. The varied techniques that emerge from these materials
create rough textures and linear elements, resulting in landscapes that feel
slightly disheveled and scattered, evoking a sense of nostalgia.
《Dual Gaze》, featuring
Chansong Kim and Chanmi Heo, invites viewers to explore perspectives that
emerge unexpectedly at the edges of boundaries. Kim’s work blurs existing
limits while establishing new ones, revealing the strangeness of her gaze,
while Heo draws attention to the unnoticed and the small. When their viewpoints
intersect, anonymity emerges. The bodies and landscapes depicted are undefined;
they exist solely on the canvas, encouraging viewers to delve into a multitude
of interpretations. Through the shared vision of Chansong Kim and Chanmi Heo,
we invite you to resonate with your own perspectives and reflections.
