The 《OLD & NEW: Creating the New by Honoring the Old—Contemporary Artists Celebrate Kansong》 exhibition featured 33 prolific Korean and international contemporary artists, each elected to employ their unique visual language for representing of the values, concepts, and importance of culture.

Through these artists’ free interpretations and forms, the exhibition demonstrated which cultural issues are considered vital those living in the contemporary era.

The contemporary artists’ use of visual forms to reflect on the identity of Korean culture fell on the 110th anniversary of Chun Hyungpil (pen name Kansong)’s birth.

While Kansong was a guardian of Korean culture, contemporary artists are the ones ushering it forward. This exhibition revealed how the past and present become fertile ground for the future.
