《Random Play》 takes as its starting point the exhibition of the same title held in 2022. This project emerged from Daseul Song’s working method, which does not confine images and moving images to mere visual information but recognizes them as objects with volume, recontextualizing or decontextualizing each unit according to the environments through which they circulate.

The artist regards image data as objects that record sensations mediated by the bodies of users who move between today’s media environment and the reality that exists outside it. She also perceives and explores the various devices through which such data is summoned as luminous objects.

When fragments of data drifting through media environments form delusions and are contained within frames, and when they are summoned from media environments into the reality of the exhibition space, what is omitted, and what exceeds?

Through 《Random Play》, the artist invites contemporary image producers and consumers to construct and intersect timelines that arise in different times and spaces.

Through this project, she seeks to create a moment to reflect, together with anonymous random players, on the layers of meaning generated at the point where digital images encounter reality, and to re-examine the modes of existence and possibilities of contemporary images.
