Dahoon Nam studied Art History at the University of Toronto. He currently lives and works in Seoul.

As part of the Youth Week curated program, Dahoon Nam’s solo
exhibition 《July 12, 2008,
Apartment 507, Building 106, Cheonggu 3rd Complex》 will
be held from Thursday, September 18 to Saturday, October 25 at Culture Salon
5120 (B1, Gongneung Happy Housing).
Having spent his childhood in Nowon-gu, Nam reconstructs the
interior of the apartment in Nowon where he once lived, recreating it within
the exhibition space. By reviving the actual space and objects he used in daily
life, the work does not merely reproduce physical forms, but seeks to summon
the memories and emotions embedded within the space and its belongings.

This restoration of memory expands from the artist’s personal
experience to the local community through a collaborative project with Nowon
residents. Nam interviewed five residents from different generations, listening
to their stories about cherished objects they had lost. He then recreated these
objects, presenting them as gifts and exhibiting them in the space.
Through this project, the memories, emotions, and narratives
attached to these objects are brought into the present, offering a process of
healing in response to lost time and experiences of absence. By engaging with
the reconstructed works, visitors are invited to share stories of beloved
objects, time, and parting—encountering forgotten memories and experiencing
moments of empathy and healing. The exhibition warmly welcomes audiences to
take part in this shared experience.
