— Why We Need Play —
First,
Play introduces unexpected situations and experiences. These unforeseen
elements offer new perspectives, allowing us to step outside everyday routines
and encounter fresh forms of stimulation.
Second,
Even when an experience is not entirely new, play can generate enjoyment
through the gap between expectation and outcome. Anticipation and satisfaction
emerge from this discrepancy, and such gaps are central to the pleasure of play
itself.
Third,
Play fulfills an instinctive human need for interaction and communication.
Through engaging with others, we experience social connection, and play
provides enjoyment that arises directly from these interactions.
