Hyosung announced
on the 28th that, in collaboration with the Seoul Foundation for Arts and
Culture’s Jamsil Creative Studio, it has selected artist Sejin Hong as the
recipient of the 2021 “Artist of the Year with Hyosung” award.
The Artist of the Year award is granted annually by the Seoul Foundation for
Arts and Culture to one artist residing in the Jamsil Creative Studio residency
who demonstrates outstanding artistic achievement. The selected artist receives
a prize of 5 million KRW.
This year’s
awardee, Sejin Hong, presents paintings that visualize abstract elements such
as lines and shapes derived from artificial objects, spaces, and
materials—capturing a sense of “strangeness that deviates from wholeness.” The
jury highly praised her work, stating that “the artist’s visual language is
clearly articulated, and the level of completion in her work is remarkably
high.”

Since 2018, Hyosung
has been committed to expanding the value of disability art and supporting
artists with disabilities in pursuing barrier-free creative practices. In
partnership with the Seoul Foundation for Arts and Culture, Hyosung provides an
annual sponsorship of 100 million KRW to the Good Morning Studio program, which
supports resident artists at the Jamsil Creative Studio, a residency dedicated
to artists with disabilities.
In addition, on the
27th, Hyosung visited the Seoul Southern Veterans Affairs Office to donate
bedding sets to 125 low-income households of national veterans. The donation
items were purchased using the 10 million KRW prize money that Hyosung received
earlier this month from the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs for the
Patriotic Culture Award, adding even greater meaning to the contribution.
